The Ancient Art of CanFolding

One does not achieve enlightenment by copying the actions of the Masters, but we did anyway. (Warning, folding beercans can be dangerous, make sure you wear a harnass, safetygoggles, a helmet, steel gloves, concrete boots and asbestos underpants. Don't say we didn't warn you)

Materials Here you can watch practical skills of BierieGami®, listen to lectures and learn about the ancient and modern art of BierieGami®. BierieGami® is not only entertainment, but is also a way for the development of psychomotor, intellectual and creative abilities. In the old days, canned beer was very expensive so only the very wealthy could afford to learn BierieGami®. As it became more affordable, more people learned how to fold and more and more designs were created. Today, BierieGami® is often used as decoration for special events and parties. BierieGami® hippo's and snails are often seen at wedding celebrations. Materials you will need: BieriGami cans, a sixpack, or any other lager you can stomach. Before you begin: * Remember that BierieGami® is very tough! You may need to practice a few times before you get it right! * Often, both pictures and words are used to teach you how to make different pieces. Follow whichever is easier for you. A solid line will show you where to fold. If the line is dotted, it means to fold and then unfold, leaving a crease in the can. [Fig. 1 Raw material before preparation]

Use thin and crisp cans. BierieGami® cans (sometimes called biru) or plain sixpacks will work. Don't use expensive lager at first. Read these webpages from beginning. You must be familiar with the symbols and basic folds. Learn before folding. Look at the diagrams carefully. Make sure you follow the sequence exactly as numbered. When lost, compare the diagram with the next one, and guess how to make it as described in the next diagram. If you can't figure out, begin again from the first step by drinking another can. Fold neatly. Make sure the corners or edges exactly fit on each other. Don't make haste. Fold firmly. Fold on a solid surface and press the creases with your fingers. Some folders use tools such as a folding-bone. Practice and practice each model. No one can fold it well at the first time. You can take a break when you feel tired or frustrated. Wash your hands before you fold. It's important if you want to make a beautiful model. Imagine what your model will be like, and choose suitable cans. Choose lager according to the model; or choose a model according to the lager. Most models have their structures. You should understand them. And find out the best sequence. Change some folds if necessary. You don't have to follow the diagrams. Fold rhythmically. Always be conscious of the whole sequence. To do so, you must fold from memory. Fold in the air as far as possible, and you can feel the can more. Remember that cans have some thickness. Although you should fold neatly, you must give appropriate play. Listen to the can.
